Be Faithful in Your Study of the Bible

Christians have received and exhortation from the Word of God to be faithful in our reading and study of the Bible.

Joshua 1:8: This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

The Bible says to meditate on the Word of God. This word in Christian terms means to contemplate or think on the scriptures. We are encouraged to become passionate with our study of the Word of God. Most Christians may be under the assumption that only Teachers and Pastors should spend a lot of time in the Word of God. Well these scriptures say that we should “meditate day and night” on the Word of God. This is how we grow in the Word and keep ourselves in the Love of God. We should never depend on a Pastor or Teacher to do our Bible studies for us.
Every Christian has the responsibility of discovering their own technique of Bible Study. In other words what works for someone else may not work for you. For instance you may want to start out just reading one scripture a day with the assistance of a commentary then expand to two scriptures a day. (Commentaries are great study aids but they do not replace the Holy Spirit in the interpretation of the Bible). A little at a time is great for those that want the scriptures to get rooted into their spirits. Sometimes a Christian may just want to read the scriptures without doing a deep study of each scripture. This is also great because these scriptures are being deposited into a spiritual bank so to speak and will be there when you need them. Whatever method that is chosen, ensure that consistency is in the forefront of your studies.

Let the Word of God Cleanse You

We should never get discourage when we do not see instant results when reading the Word of God. The Holy Spirit is working in us according to the Word of God whether we feel anything or not. There will be positive results as we maintain our diligence in the study of the Word of God. Some of the truths in the Word of God will become parts of our lives without us even recognizing that anything has occurred. The Bible is sometimes compared to water. Water washes over an object and cleanses without any of the water being retained. So is the same in the Spirit as the “watering of the Word of God “ is applied to our mind and life we will be getting refreshed and renewed.

Psalm 119:9: Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.
Ephesians 5:26: That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word.
John 17:7: Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.
